IPL 2022 Mega Auction: All You Need To Know About The 7 Players From Associate Nations

IPL 2022 Mega Auction is all set to take place on February 12th & 13th in Bangalore, and as many as 590 players have registered for the IPL 2022 mega auction.

Every cricket player around the world is understandably excited about the cricket extravaganza known as the Indian Premier League, and many wish to participate in it. Even the players from the associate nations who are looking to play in the big league and leave a mark. 

Seven players have been shortlisted to undergo the hammer at the IPL 2022 mega auction. These players have displayed some good performances in the field which has put the limelight on them. 

Let's have a look at these seven players who may participate in the IPL 2022 if they find a bidder at the Mega Auction.


1. Brad Wheal (Scotland)

The 25-year-old from Scotland caught eyes with his performance at 'The Hundred' in England. The right arm pacer has picked up 45 wickets in 37 matches, averaging 22.26 and striking at 16.2. Wheal has set his base price at 50 lakhs and will feature in the IPL for the first time.


2. David Wiese (Namibia)

The South Africa-born David Wiese, who got to play for Namibia due to his father being born there, is available at the IPL 2022 mega auction for a base price of 50 lakhs. Wiese has registered 215 wickets in 278 T20 matches and has scored 3,121 runs in these matches. Wiese participated in the 2015-16 season representing the Royal Challengers Bangalore. The 36-year old has played 15 matches, scoring 127 runs and picking up 16 wickets. 


3. Ali Khan (USA)

Ali Khan is the only player to be shortlisted for the IPL 2022 Mega Auction. The right-arm fast bowler has 53 wickets in 48 T20 matches. The 31-year old has set his base price at 40 lakhs. He became the first player from the USA to be a part of an IPL franchise when he was roped in by KKR in 2020. However, he was injured and ruled out of the tournament. Ali Khan went unsold in IPL 2021 auctions and would be hoping to get a buyer in the IPL 2022 mega auction. 


4. Sandeep Lamichhane (Nepal)

A 21-year old leg spinner from Nepal has already scripted a good backstory at such a young page. The U19 World 2016 was the stage where the world turned its eyes towards the young 16-year old spinner, as he finished with 14 wickets in 6 games. Lamichhane created history in the IPL 2018 as he became the first Nepali player to feature in the IPL, bought by DC at 20 lakhs. Sandeep has played 3 matches in IPL 2018 where he picked 5 wickets while 6 games in 2019 and managed 8 wickets. The leg spinner's bidding will start at 40 lakhs in the IPL 2022 Mega Auction.


5. Safyaan Sharif (Scotland) 

Safyaan Sharif made his debut for Scotland at age of 20 after excellent performances in Dunfermline and Scotland U-19s and went on to pick up 4 wickets for 27 runs on his debut ODI against the Netherlands in 2011. In a World Cup Qualifier match in 2018 against Zimbabwe, the all-rounder picked up 5/33 which made him the 'man of the match' in the tied match. The 30-year old has set a base price of 20 lakh INR and would be hoping to get a buyer in the mega auction.


6. Johannes Jonathan Smit (Namibia)

Another addition on this list from Namibia, Johannes Jonathan Smit is also an able all-rounder who provides an extra bowling option with his left-arm medium pace. JJ Smit has 23 wickets to his name in T20Is in 21 innings while 50 T20 wickets in 54 innings. With the bat, the 26-year old has 441 runs in 22 T20I innings and 647 runs in 46 domestic T20 matches. The Namibian can be a good buy at a base price of 20 lakhs.


7. Ruben Trumpelmann (Namibia)

And the final name on the list and third from Namibia, Rubel Trumpelman has 10 wickets in 10 T20Is and 15 wickets in 14 T20 matches. The 24-year old left-arm fast pacer has set his base price at 20 lakhs for the upcoming IPL 2022.
