T20 is a format which is majorly dominated by batsmen. A game can be won or lost within a few deliveries and most of the time it is the bowlers who are at the receiving end. 

Indian Premier League, in the previous 12 editions, has seen some tremendous batsmen playing some exceptional knocks and contributing to the success of their teams.

Here is a list of the top 5 batsmen with most runs to have played in the IPL.

5. Shikhar Dhawan


The left-handed opener is known for giving the perfect starts to his team at a very consistent rate. The swashbuckling opener has scored a total 4,579 runs at a healthy average of 33 in 158 innings and has scored a total of 4,579 runs. He will be continuing his opening duties with Delhi Capitals in the upcoming season of IPL.

 

4. David Warner


The Australian opener is the only foreign player to be in the top 5 best batsmen list. He is known to play an aggressive brand of cricket and can take the game away from the opposition single-handedly. In 126 innings, he has scored 4,706 runs at a strike rate of 142 while averaging 43. Warner will continue to open the innings for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2020.

 

 

3. Rohit Sharma


Gifted with an exceptional ability to time the ball, Rohit is one batsman people would love to pay to watch. The batting wizard has scored 4,898 runs in 188 innings at a strike rate of just under 131. He is also the most successful captain in the history of IPL with 4 trophies to his name. He will be back as captain for current Champions - Mumbai Indians.


2. Suresh Raina


He is popularly known as Mr. IPL and rightly so, he has been part of the league since the beginning and has played the highest number of matches in the league - 193. An aggressive middle-order batsman, Raina can change gears whenever his team needs him. He has scored 5,368 runs at a strike rate of 137 and has an average of 33. The southpaw won't be participating in the upcoming season due to some "personal reasons".


1. Virat Kohli


Indian Captain is arguably one of the best batsmen in the modern era of cricket. Be it any format or level, he has performed consistently well whenever he has got an opportunity. Popularly known as 'The Run Machine", Kohli has scored the most number of runs in the history of IPL - 5,412. He has managed to score all these runs while averaging 38 in 169 innings at a strike rate of over 131. Virat will continue to be the captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore in the upcoming season.
