Colonel Cottaru Kanakaiya Nayudu aka CK Nayudu was the first test captain of India. He led the Indian team at Lord's in 1932 on June 25th to play the first test match. In total, CK Nayudu captained India for four matches in which he drew one and lost three.
First ODI Captain Of India
Ajit Wadekar was the first ODI captain of India. Wadekar led India in the first ODI at Leeds vs England on July 13th 1974. Wadekar only captained India for two matches - both came in losing cause for the team.
First T20I Captain Of India

Much everyone's surprise, India's first T20I captain was Virender Sehwag, not MS Dhoni. Sehwag only captained India once in the shortest format and won that match - it was against South Africa in Johannesburg on 1st December 2006. It was a thrilling game where India managed to win with one ball to spare.
