For the first time ever in any T20 competition, the captains will be allowed to name their teams' playing 11 AFTER the toss. A day prior to the start of the South African francise-based T20 league, the management announced a few tweaks in traditional cricket rules to make the game more interesting and competitive, while 'preserving the sanctity' of the game.

As far as naming the playing 11 goes, captains will prepare a list of 13 players before the toss. After the toss, captains can exclude two players out of the 13 to name their 11 according to the toss outcome. The two players left out will be the substitute fielders for their team in the match.

In another change, no overthrow runs will be granted if an 'intentional' run-out attempt causes the ball to deflect off the stumps. According to the SA20 organisers, this is to encourage teams to field better and more attacking.

Teams will also have a chance to attain bonus points in the match with a better run rate. If the team manages to score at a 1.25 times better rate than the opposition, the team will be granted a bonus point along with the four points for the win. Moreover, if the ball hits the stumps on a no-ball or a free hit, the batters can't take a run.
