5 अगस्त। नाथन लॉयन (49/6) और पैट कमिंस (32/4) की घातक गेंदबाजी के दम पर आस्ट्रेलिया ने एजबेस्ट क्रिकेट मैदान में खेले गए एशेज सीरीज के पहले टेस्ट मैच के पांचवें और अंतिम दिन सोमवार को मेजबान इंग्लैंड को 251 रनों से करारी शिकस्त देकर पांच मैचों की सीरीज में 1-0 की बढ़त बना ली। इंग्लैंड को मैच जीतने के लिए 398 रन बनाने थे, लेकिन मेजबान टीम अपनी खराब बल्लेबाजी के कारण 52.3 ओवर में 146 रन पर ऑलआउट हो गई। इस मैदान पर आस्ट्रेलिया की 2001 के बाद से यह पहली जीत है।
आस्ट्रेलिया ने इस तरह आईसीसी विश्व टेस्ट चैंपियनशिप का पहला टेस्ट जीत लिया है। इंग्लैंड ने लंच तक चार विकेट पर 85 रन बना लिए थे। लेकिन लंच के बाद टीम 61 रन और जोड़कर ढेर हो गई।
