प्रथम श्रेणी में पिछले आठ सीजन के 62 मैचों में शार्दूल ठाकुर ने केवल छह अर्धशतक लगाए थे। उनका सातवां अर्धशतक ऐसे में समय में निकला, जब ब्रिस्बेन के गाबा मैदान पर आस्ट्रेलिया के खिलाफ जारी चौथे और अंतिम टेस्ट में टीम इंडिया की नैया डूबती जा रही थी।

ठाकुर ने अपने केवल दूसरे ही टेस्ट में ऐसी पारी खेली, जिसकी चारों ओर प्रशंसा हो रही है।
