स्मिथ ने अब तक चार टेस्ट मैचों की छह पारियों में ऑस्ट्रेलिया के लिए पारी की शुरुआत करते हुए महज 28.50 की औसत से 171 रन बनाए हैं। हालांकि इसमें उनकी नाबाद 91 रनों की पारी भी शामिल है, जो उन्होंने गाबा में वेस्टइंडीज के खिलाफ दूसरे टेस्ट में खेली थी। खुद स्मिथ भी मानते हैं कि वह इस स्थान के साथ अब तक न्याय नहीं कर पाए हैं।
स्मिथ ने फॉक्स क्रिकेट से कहा, "मैं कहीं भी बल्लेबाजी करने में सहज हूं। मुझे बस महत्वपूर्ण सीरीज में अच्छा प्रदर्शन करना और टीम की मदद करना है। उम्मीद है कि आगामी सीरीज में भी ऐसा ही होगा।"
