वानखेड़े में वापस आना 'काफी भावुक' करता है: न्यूजीलैंड के स्पिनर एजाज पटेल
उनके पास ऐसा करने के सभी कारण हैं क्योंकि मुंबई उनके दिल में एक खास जगह रखता है। ऐसा इसलिए नहीं कि उनका जन्म मैक्सिमम सिटी में हुआ था और आठ साल की उम्र में वे न्यूजीलैंड चले गए थे और कभी-कभार वहां जाते हैं, क्योंकि उनकी पत्नी इस शहर से हैं और उनका बड़ा परिवार अभी भी मुंबई में रहता है। लेकिन पटेल का कारण अधिक व्यक्तिगत है - वानखेड़े टेस्ट क्रिकेट में उनके सबसे बेहतरीन प्रदर्शन का स्थल है।
यह वानखेड़े स्टेडियम ही था जहां पटेल खेल के इतिहास में एक पारी में सभी 10 विकेट लेने वाले केवल तीसरे क्रिकेटर बने, इंग्लैंड के दिग्गज जिम लेकर और भारत के अनिल कुंबले के साथ यह उपलब्धि हासिल करने वाले पहले क्रिकेटर बने। दिसंबर 2021 में 10/119 का उनका प्रदर्शन अब तक किसी टेस्ट में उनका सर्वश्रेष्ठ प्रदर्शन है।
