Afghanistan tour of Sri Lanka, 2022

Afghanistan are set to tour Sri Lanka for the first time in November 2022. The 3-ODI series between Sri Lanka and Afghanistan also marks the first-ever bilateral series between the two teams. 

The tour comprises 3 match ODI series, all to be played at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, Pallekele. The 1st ODI will be played on November 25th, the 2nd ODI on November 27th and the 3rd ODI on November 30th. 

These match will be a part of the inaugural ICC Cricket World Super League 2020-2023 where Sri Lanka are at the 10th spot in the points table with 6 wins and 11 losses. Afghanistan are in a better position with 10 wins and 2 losses, placing them in the 7th spot. Both teams would look to win the series and accumulate crucial points to qualify directly for the ODI World Cup to be played in 2023. 

Before this, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan have faced off against every 4 times in ODIs. Out of which, Sri Lanka have won 3 matches while Afghanistan managed a 91-run win in the Asia Cup 2018. Sri Lanka defeated Afghanistan by 129 runs in Asia Cup 2014 followed by a 5-wicket win in the 2015 ODI World Cup. These two teams met in an ODI match last time in World Cup 2019, where Sri Lanka won by 34 runs (D/L method).
