कोलकाता टेस्ट में टीम इंडिया की खराब बल्लेबाजी के बाद कोच गौतम गंभीर पर सवाल उठने लगे हैं। भारत स्पिन मददगार पिच पर दूसरी पारी में 124 का छोटा लक्ष्य भी नहीं चेस कर पाया और 93 पर ढेर होकर 30 रन से मैच हार गया। लगातार मिल रही आलोचनाओं के बीच रॉबिन उथप्पा गंभीर के समर्थन में सामने आए हैं। उथप्पा का कहना है कि खराब पिच और घरेलू तैयारी की कमी के लिए कोच को जिम्मेदार ठहराना गलत है।
कोलकाता के ईडन गार्डन्स में खेले गए पहले टेस्ट में भारत सिर्फ तीन दिन में साउथ अफ्रीका से हार गया। स्पिन के लिए मददगार इस पिच पर भारतीय बल्लेबाज़ों का प्रदर्शन बेहद निराशाजनक रहा और टीम दूसरी पारी में 124 रन का आसान सा लक्ष्य भी हासिल नहीं कर पाई। भारत मात्र 93 रन पर ऑलआउट हुआ और प्रोटियाज़ ने दो मैचों की सीरीज में 1-0 की बढ़त ले ली।
