श्रीलंका के खिलाफ पहले वनडे में रावलपिंडी में पाकिस्तान को खराब शुरुआत मिली, लेकिन सलमान अली आ़गा ने जिम्मेदारी संभालते हुए शानदार सेंचुरी जड़ दी। पाकिस्तान का टॉप ऑर्डर 95 रन पर लड़खड़ा गया था, लेकिन सलमान की नाबाद शतकीय पारी और हुसैन तलत की साझेदारी ने टीम को मैच में वापस खड़ा कर दिया।
श्रीलंका के खिलाफ तीन मैचों की वनडे सीरीज के पहले मुकाबले में पाकिस्तान को शुरुआत से ही मुश्किलों का सामना करना पड़ा। मंगलवार, 11 नवंबर को रावलपिंडी में टॉस हारकर पहले बल्लेबाजी करने उतरी पाकिस्तान टीम का टॉप ऑर्डर 24 ओवर में ही 95 रन पर ढह गया। सैम अयूब सिर्फ 6 रन बना पाए, फखर जमान 32 पर आउट हुए और बाबर आज़म 29 रन ही जोड़ सके। मोहम्मद रिज़वान भी 5 पर पवेलियन लौट गए।
