लिचफील्ड ने कहा कि अगर ऑस्ट्रेलिया ग्रुप स्टेज से सफलतापूर्वक आगे निकल जाता है, तो वे खुद को खिताब बरकरार रखने के काफी करीब मान सकते हैं। 2018, 2020 और 2023 में टूर्नामेंट के विजेता ऑस्ट्रेलिया को दुबई और शारजाह में 3-20 अक्टूबर तक होने वाली आगामी प्रतियोगिता में भारत, श्रीलंका, न्यूजीलैंड और पाकिस्तान के साथ एक ग्रुप में रखा गया है।
“हम जानते हैं कि विश्व कप जीतने के लिए आपको हर टीम को हराना होगा। हम इससे डरते नहीं हैं। हम सिर्फ सर्वश्रेष्ठ टीमों के साथ खेलने के अवसर के लिए अधिक उत्साहित हैं। अगर हम उस ग्रुप स्टेज से आगे निकल जाते हैं, तो हम विश्व कप के बहुत करीब होंगे।
